The Regions asked, DesirMed delivered!
We were happy to host the first DesirMed webinar on a top priority topic: funding and financing resilience and adaptation, with a focus on Nature-based Solutions (NbS).
Held on 12 November and co-organised by EPLO and EIT Climate-KIC, the session brought together three truly inspiring speakers from the funding, finance and insurance sectors:
• Anoud Allouzi, Lead Specialist in Nature Finance and Policy, EBRD
• Renata Haseth, Vice President, Bankers without Boundaries (BwB) – The Investment Bank for Earth
• Ben Honan, Investment Lead, EIT Climate-KIC
Moderation was provided by Alexia Spyridonidou, Climate Governance Specialist at EPLO & EU Climate Pact Ambassador.
More than 75 participants from cities, regions and the private sector joined us. Our speakers showcased concrete initiatives from their institutions covering funding, financing, lending and blending mechanisms for developing and upscaling NbS projects. They highlighted successful public–private partnerships and underlined the crucial – and still largely untapped – role of the insurance sector.
Key highlights included:
• EBRD’s financial and non-financial support mechanisms, with emblematic examples across different NbS contexts.
• The BwB–EIB “City Climate Hub” initiative, currently supporting climate neutrality (NetZeroCities) and set to expand to climate resilience and adaptation in 2026 (breaking news coming!).
• EIT Climate-KIC’s example of how cooperation with the insurance sector can unlock and de-risk financing for proactive measures – ultimately saving enormous costs compared to a do-nothing scenario or the disproportionate costs of post-disaster recovery.
