The Climateurope2Festival took place in Venice, Italy, from March 11 to 13, 2024. Initiated by ICREA Professor Francisco Doblas-Reyes, Director of the Department of Earth Sciences at the Barcelona (BSC-CNS) and Climateurope2 coordinator, the event was organised by the Euro-Mediterranean Climate Change Centre (CMCC).
The Festival was unique for the climate innovation community, incorporating artistic, capacity-building and participatory activities. More than 120 participants from 17 countries attended on site during the entire Festival plus 50 participants online for each day, including over 60 speakers, moderators, and representatives of 19 relevant projects, plus more than 40 initiatives.
The festival served as an ideal opportunity to foster discussion and knowledge sharing among people from various sectors related to climate services for a climate resilient future. The overarching themes covered during the festival were selected to encourage the mingling of different types of audiences:
- EU Mission on Climate Change: Explore effective adaptation and building resilience through the use of climate services.
- Urban Challenges: Focus on sustainable urban development and climate-resilient cities.
- Water Management Challenges: Discuss the crucial role of climate services in addressing water-related challenges.
During the World Café sessions, CMCC researchers facilitated multiple roundtable discussions. Among these, our CMCC coordination team, moderated a specific roundtable focused on presenting and discussing DesirMED.
Interesting insights were drawn through this interactive exchange with relevant experts, projects and initiatives, focusing on the concept of transformation and expectations from DesirMED in terms of climate services.
