DesirMED 2nd regional workshop in Xàbia, Spain
DesirMED 2nd regional workshop in Xàbia, Spain

On 29 April 2026, the second Regional Workshop of the DesirMED project took place in Xàbia (Valencia Region, Spain), bringing together local and regional stakeholders to continue advancing towards a shared adaptation pathway for forest fire prevention and climate change adaptation.

The workshop gathered a diverse group of stakeholders from the local and regional levels to reflect on the progress made in the Valencia Region and to exchange experiences on forest fire prevention in Xàbia. The event also featured an inspiring keynote by Dr. María José Sanz, Scientific Director of BC3, highlighting the impacts of climate change in the Mediterranean and the need for transformative adaptation approaches.

The second part of the workshop centered on participatory working sessions, where participants collaboratively discussed proposed strategies and measures, key enabling factors and barriers to implementation, and explored potential adaptation pathways over the short, medium and long term. Discussions were highly dynamic and demonstrated a strong level of commitment from participants, many of whom have been involved in the DesirMED participatory process since its early stages.

The outcomes of this workshop will directly feed into the development of an Adaptation Pathway for forest fire prevention in Xàbia, with lessons that can be scaled up to other Mediterranean regions.

A big thank you to all participants for their engagement and valuable contributions.
